The primary and secondary resources listed below are held by the Institute Archives and Special Collections Department. Since evidence of women at Rensselaer can be found throughout the archives’ holdings, the list is not exhaustive. It is intended only to highlight collections which are known to have significant concentrations of information on this topic.

Subject File (AC 40) Include articles, clippings, reports, illustrations, and miscellaneous documents concerning a wide range of topics and events. Arranged alphabetically by subject, these files contain news clippings, articles, reports, illustrations, and other items that give a summary of a topic as well as providing cross references to additional materials in the archives. The subject files are a good place to begin your research. Topics include:

Faculty/Alumni biographical collection (AC 43) | Information about students, faculty, staff and trustees, including vitae, articles, publications, clippings, etc. Examples include Rensselaer’s first female president, Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson (1999 to the present) and the Institute’s first women graduates, Lois Graham and Mary Ellen (Rathbun) Kolb (RPI Class of 1946).
