Showcased on the 2nd floor of Folsom Library, the Institute Archives and Special Collections celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal. Through photographs, books, maps, and graphic representations the exhibit highlights the completion of the canal by introducing the earliest surveying expeditions, emphasizing France’s involvement and failure, ending with the American success in completing the canal in 1914. Peppered throughout the exhibit one finds the biographies of numerous RPI engineers who had been professionally vested in connecting the oceans from the 1850s to 1914.
